Unbaptized inquirers are consecrated as Catechumens through the Rite for Entrance held twice a year (usually in September and January). During this period of the Catechumenate, the Catechumen continues to grow in their faith and conversion to God while discerning with the community their readiness for full initiation (Baptism, Confirmation & First Eucharist).
This period of discernment and growth flows out of the Liturgy of the Word. After participating in the liturgical prayers, hearing the readings, Gospel and homily, Catechumens are dismissed with OCIA catechists to learn more about what the Church teaches in that Sunday's readings. A Catechumen's formation is thereby called to align with the rhythms of the Church's Liturgical calendar, while exploring the corresponding events of the Life of Christ and teachings of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
If you are in Inquiry and are discerning or sensing a call to this period of preparation, please contact Heath Vogel [email protected] for more information about being consecrated as a Catechumen!
